shrink art Christmas tree decor

Shrink art Christmas tree decor!

We've been shrinky-dinking our Christmas tree! It all started with a simple play-date and then I guess the festive mood set in. ;) If you're a shrinky dink noob, it's best to experiment with a few extra pieces in the oven before putting in your real handiwork. (Saves you the heartache from seeing your precious design destroyed by too high a temperature. Recommended temperature is about 150 degree celsius.) Here are some posts for tips and how-tos: Thrifty Fun Curbly I got my opaque white shrink plastic paper (A4 size, $1.50 each) from Art Friend. The store also stocks … [Read More...]

Little Lessons: Never underestimate a child’s ability to love

Occasionally, my little girl astounds me. This is one incident where I'm left deeply humbled. There are tantrums, and there are tantrums. Javier was having one of the latter and I was at the end of my patience rope. I felt like screaming. Instead, I walked away, feeling helpless and exasperated. I looked at Vera, and thought she might be able to help her little brother, so I asked her to go and talk to him. She went. She sat. She said some words. She gave him his water bottle and asked him to stop crying. The words she spoke probably echoed some of mine, uttered over the past two … [Read More...]

Mamma Mia! Here I go again.

Thank you for the music, the songs I'm singing...Thanks for all the joy they're bringing. Who can live without it, I ask in all honesty? What would life be? I've been bitten by the ABBA bug ever since catching the opening performance of Mamma Mia!, the award-winning musical inspired by the classic songs of ABBA last week. I was pretty much blown away by the performance. I mean those songs...Songs that make you wanna kick off your shoes, or slip on some dancing shoes, and get your groove on. (Which incidentally almost everyone in the audience did at the end of the show.) You are the … [Read More...]

Little Lessons: Learning to love extravagantly

A friend gave me a pack of Love Dare cards not long after I got married. From time to time, I refer to it for little reminders on how to be more loving and thoughtful to my hubby. This particular one has got me thinking this past week about how I can love more extravagantly. Something extraordinary, and that goes beyond our normal routine. Extravagant love need not come with a hefty price tag. But it's often big on thoughtfulness, effort and sometimes creativity. It could mean walking malls in search of that out-of-stock briefcase. It could mean rounding up a few of her friends … [Read More...]

Busy buzzy bees

Life has been busy of late. I feel like a headless queen bee on some days, and thoughts zip out of my mind as fast as they come. I feel like grabbing them and storing them in a jar. Granted, we have had some good busy happening around here. Such as watching Hop and Honk last week. The kids enjoyed the show, and sat through the entire 95 minutes of it (with a break in between). I think it's more suited for the bigger kids though (erm, people like me, and maybe the primary schoolers) because the humour was pretty brilliant and the singing and acting were spot on too. The kids could follow … [Read More...]
