Love stories

When was the last time you shared with someone your love story?

I was recently asked that question by World Moms Blog and as I typed out a short paragraph of our love story, I just couldn’t help smiling.

We met in Melbourne one winter. I was studying and working part-time. I was closing up the cafe when he showed up with his friends. I made him a cup of latte and served them some food while they waited for me to close so they could send me home.

Home was a rented apartment in the middle of the city, near chinatown. (Cosy, convenient, but not cheap.)

While we chatted over tea, he seemed very interested in the things that I was doing. From there on, I kinda knew…Before he left, he gave me a teddy bear attached to a single stalk of long-stemmed rose, along with a little note that said “I would like to get to know you more.”

After he left, we continued our conversation online and a few months later, I purchased for myself a one-way ticket back to Singapore.

People often ask me with large teasing eyes whether I had decided to come back for him. Well, if he’s in the room, I would usually deny it. But if he’s not in the room, then I might say it’s partially because.

*ahem*

Anyway, Melbourne will always have a special place in our hearts.

To celebrate the theme of love this month, I would like to invite you to write a little note of your own love story (where you first met, what drew you to each other, what he/she said).

If you have a picture, perfect! If not, it’s the story and the moment and the emotions that count.

Remember this special moment and rejoice over the journey. I hope this exercise brings back fond memories, transports you back to that special place where you first fell in love, and encourages you to grow your relationship even stronger.

Please share…that we may also smile along with you.

Heh, not exactly like the movies. My hair was slightly unkempt and I didn’t quite look the part of somebody famous…Hee I don’t think we fell in love right there and then. But it was a good start. ;)

  4. Evelyn says:

OMG, truly a movie-style beginning, as Adeline said! And they all waited behind to see you home? How sweet!

    • mamawearpapashirt says:

Evelyn, haha yes that was the plan. I conveniently forgot to mention that we had a mutual friend (one of my besties from school days) who tried to set us up, so basically all the friends knew what was going on and they just played along. =P

  5. Susan says:

And to think I never knew … :) Very sweet indeed. Will link up once I finish typing out our love story. And thanks for the reminder to always look back and see how much we have progressed from there.

Thanks mummybean, am sure we all have our fair share of sweet memories from those early days of love and youth. It’s funny but I don’t really think about these moments much unless I make a conscious effort to, or something jolts my memory. And yet I never seem to forget, even the little details…Haha, anyway I hope you find your post!

It’s really like the start to a great love story in the movies. =) Boy meets girl in cafe, boy waits, gives rose and love note and happily ever after. =) Sweet! Me and the hubby, we met through badminton in NTU, more of the activity that brought us together than the place. Looking forward to reading the other stories! Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for starting this thread June, put me in a mood for love this week when I wrote my story, really helped to be less grumpy towards hubs haha. I thoroughly enjoyed reading all the stories that our fellow SMBs shared as well, and I am so glad that so many of us are game to reveal this part of our lives.

Your love story is so romantic, set in Melbourne, complete with the cafe setting and the love note from V. I think love is definitely in Melb’s air :)

Haha, I’m glad this somehow helped you to be less grumpy and more loving…I think it pretty much had the same effect on me. I sure hope this lasts… ;)

You’ve opened Pandora’s box and got everything in the mood for love (and sharing their stories). Perhaps in line with your most recent post on more babies for SG, we might see a spike in 2013! :p

I won’t be writing a post because it’s funnier to hear it from the hubby because he claims I picked him up! (and that’s not true!)

    Enjoy the rest of Sept!

  18. Pamela Tan says:

You know how I read Harry Potter fanfiction? Well, one of the most common AU (Alternate Universe) scenario is that Ginny was working in a muggle cafe, and Harry Potter (who, in this alternate universe never went to Hogwarts) came to this cafe, and got to know Ginny there. And they got to know each other… Reading this post was like one of these fanfics come to live! Lovely! :) Thanks for starting this lovely linky!

    • mamawearpapashirt says:

I guess this might be a common storyline then, to remind people of movies and even fanfic. Haha, thanks Pam for joining in the love and fun. I had a good time reading all your stories, learnt a thing or two even. ;)

  19. Katrijn says:

Love the teddy bear and the rose, and the whole coming in just before closing time :) And a one ticket, that’s very brave! I hope you’ll enjoy our story too, although it’s not nearly as romantic as yours!
