I recently discovered Groovy Giraffe (Singapore’s first online remainder bookstore) and purchased a set of The Berenstain Bears Bunch, which contains eight of their best tales, including Safe and Sound, Go Out to Eat, Lose A Friend, The Big Spelling Bee, Hug and Make Up, Computer Trouble, Berenstain Bears and the Trouble with Chores, and Berenstain Bears and the Trouble with Commercials.
At $25.90 for the set of eight, I thought it was pretty good value! I also like the neat little carry bag, which makes it easy to bring out when we visit a nearby cafe or playground.
It’s the first time we’re reading Berenstain Bears although I’ve heard a lot about them, and their focus on inculcating different values and life-skills in children.
My favourite of the lot has to be the Berenstain Bears and the trouble with chores. I’ve been thinking about implementing age-appropriate chores for the kids lately - so far Vera and Javier both pick up their toys after them, place their dirty bowls and cups into the sink, and their dirty clothes into the laundry basket. I think Vera is capable of taking on more responsibilities such as folding and keeping her clothes, so this book was apt for us.
We also like Hug and Make Up. This scene below between Brother and Sister bear says it all. It’s a common scene in our household on some days too. I seriously think we need to read this book every week or so, just to remind the kids to love, hug and make up after a fight.
My experience with Groovy Giraffe and a discount code for readers
My shopping experience at Groovy Giraffe was a smooth one, and I received my books within the next 3-4 days of placing the order. I like that I could browse by age group such as toddler, baby, or adult, and by categories such as gift ideas, bargains and by children’s laureate, which features books by award-winning authors. The site also offers tips on choosing books for various age groups, which is helpful if you need some guidance selecting books for your kids.
Also when you preview the books, it shows more than just the title page. Usually one or two pages from within the book are displayed as well, so you can see the font, illustrations and tone of the writing.
You can even add a gift-wrap option by paying an extra $1, which is a nice touch.
Last but not least, I find the prices competitive. Remainder books are basically overstock and overprint books that are marked down for quick sale, so good value is what you can expect. And the books are brand new, so don’t worry.
Do visit the site next time you’re book-shopping. PS. I will likely be placing an order for Bear Flies High by Michael Rosen next. Just give us some time to finish our set of The Berenstain Bears!
And oh yes, just use my affiliate code “MWPS5” while checking out and enjoy 5% off all items (except Bargains)! You’re welcome!
